Paru chez ANTI- Records, Supernatural thing est le nouvel et 12ème album du prodigieux Matt WARD, chanteur originaire de Portland, Oregon. Comme sur ses précédentes galettes, c'est fin, boisé, élégant. Nous avons affaire au top de l'Americana pop, à du pur western gothique chic. Entre poussière du désert et Broadway, Mister WARD accueille beaucoup d’invités (DR. DOG, FIRST AID KIT ou Neko CASE, entre autres) et ose deux reprises grand écart : un titre du dernier David BOWIE revisité en version saxo lounge (I can’t give everything away) côtoie le joyau dépouillé de Daniel JOHNSTON de 1982, Story of an artist. À l'instar de Lifeline, la chanson qui ouvre ce nouvel album, en toute simplicité (une voix, quelques guitares), M WARD n'est jamais meilleur que seul, dans une bienvenue économie de moyens.
